PROMOTING THE PUBLIC GOOD AND WELFARE OF THE COLLEGE AREA COMMUNITY
A revamped community council is being formed for the College Area, separate from the College Area Community Planning Board.
The new CACC will combine with the College Area Community Coalition, a non-profit, California public benefit corporation. It will be a membership organization open to all residents, businesses and non-profits in the College Area.
Led by a 12-member board (Three At-large directors) the group’s mission will be to conduct charitable and educational activities to preserve and improve the College Area’s physical qualities and to offer activities that encourage diverse inclusion and build social connections.
The board will now have Neighborhood directors from Alvarado Estates, Baja Canyon, College View Estates, El Cerrito, Mesa Colony, and The Triangle as well as representatives of the College Area Business Improvement District, Associated Students of San Diego State University and the SDSU administration.
The College Area is bounded by Interstate 8 on the north, Fairmount Avenue and Collwood Boulevard on the west and 70th and 73rd streets on the east. The north side of El Cajon Boulevard is its southern boundary.
The CACPB is chartered by the City of San Diego to review and make recommendations on planning, zoning, and other city issues affecting the College Area. More information is available at the College Area Community Profile at the City of San Diego Planning Department's website.
CACPB MEETS ON THE 2ND MONDAY OF EVERY MONTH AT 6:30 P.M.
at College-Rolando Library (Community Room) 6600 Montezuma Rd. San Diego, CA 92115
THE PROCESS
The City of San Diego has begun a collaborative effort to update the College Area Community Plan, which was last updated in 1989. Community plans serve as the “blue print” for the community’s future growth and development – they determine policies and proposals on a wide array of topics, including housing, mobility, open space & parks, public facilities, conservation & sustainability, urban design and historic preservation. The updated community plan will help to reinforce the community’s role as a campus town, revitalize key activity centers, provide housing options and recreational opportunities, and strengthen connections between SDSU and the community. During the update process, Planning Department staff will work with the College Area community and the public to identify and consider important questions, issues, and opportunities including:
The College Area Community Plan Update Committee (CPU Committee) is an advisory committee of the College Area Community Planning Board, which is the City's recognized citizens' group for the College Area. The CPU Committee was created specifically for the Community Plan Update in order to provide feedback to the City throughout the process.
